Public Service in Action: A Day on the Ground

My day started at 9.45 a.m. at the Armed Forces Day flag‑raising ceremony at West Lindsey District Council. It was a well‑attended event, with cadets, veterans and former serving councillors joining together for a dignified and heartfelt moment of recognition.

By 11 a.m., I was in Sudbrooke meeting a local residents’ group working hard to improve the green spaces in their area. I’m proud to support their efforts. On the way, I received a call from a Scothern resident asking for help, so I planned to visit them later in the day.

After the meeting, I stopped by the Sudbrooke shop to speak with the owner about a concern raised by a neighbour. Fifteen minutes later, I was in Scothern, sitting down with the resident who had contacted me earlier to discuss their query.

Across the day, I’ve spoken with more than twenty people, all with different backgrounds, perspectives and stories. It’s a privilege to listen, to help where I can, and to be part of a community that cares so deeply about its place and its people.

Not a bad way to spend a day off work
